Frequently Asked Questions

Answers

“Is Flower of Life Integrative Health Clinic a dispensary?”

We are no longer a dispensary.

We started our business as a not-for-profit medical cannabis dispensary (Compassion Club Society).

We have transitioned into a medical clinic, working alongside a physician to continue to support patients who wish to heal their bodies with medical cannabis & natural medicines.

During legalization, we launched an integrative health centre as a way to offer more to our community.

Currently, we offer medication through Health Canada’s Licensed Producers.

“How do I see a doctor about using medical cannabis?”

Booking an appointment with our doctor is easy.

You can either get a referral from your primary care physician, or see him by self-referral.

Referrals, please download the referral form HERE and have your physician authorize & fax to our clinic.

You can schedule your appointment below and we will reach out with your next steps.

“Is your physician seeing/taking new patients as a Medical Doctor?”

Dr. Fair is available by appointment only as a medical cannabis specialist.

As you will discover, his passion is helping patients feel better with medical cannabis.

You can see him as a medical cannabis physician, and he can help guide you with products & dosing so you can experience a better quality of life.

“Do I need a referral from my doctor?”

We prefer you have a referral from your physician, but it is not necessary.

With your consent, we will work alongside your primary care physician and ensure we are able to best address your healthcare needs.

If your physician will not refer you to our clinic, or if you do not have a physician, you can self-refer.

We offer a variety of services and scalable offerings through our clinic.

Please call to inquire.

“Where do I get my medication from?”

Medical Cannabis comes from Health Canada’s Licensed Producers (LP’s). You can only buy medical cannabis through an online retailer that is approved by Health Canada.

Your medication is discreetly shipped to you.

These Licensed Producers (LP’s) offer better pricing for patients, different products than are available through a recreational store, and often includes tax exemptions on medicine.

“Now that cannabis is legal in Canada,
do I need a medical authorization (prescription) from a doctor?”

Recreational cannabis was recently legalized on October 17, 2017.

Medical cannabis has had a program in place with Health Canada since 2014.

You can purchase cannabis from a recreational retail store, but please be aware that store clerks are legally not able to guide you in how to use the product as medicine.

Products available through a recreational retailer may not effective or appropriate for your specific health needs.

Many patients prefer to order their medicine online, as the prices are adjusted for medical patients, extra taxes are exempt, and there are different products available.

Working alongside a physician & an educational consultant ensures safety, efficacy, and efficiency with using the medicine, so you are able to achieve the desired outcome without adverse reactions.

Our professionals can help you save time, money, and avoid negative experiences while guiding you in how to use the medicine in a way that makes the most sense for you & your quality of life.

“I don’t want to buy my medication from Health Canada.
How do I grow my own plants or designate someone to grow for me?”

Health Canada has created a program called the ACMPR (Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations) for medical patients to either purchase medication from Health Canada, or grow their own.

Under this program, Health Canada offers a personal production license to grow cannabis plants for medication.

If you are unable to grow your own medicine, you can designate someone to grow on your behalf.

You can either grow in your own home, in their home, or at a designated location.

You can also store & process your medication at home or at another location.

If you have any further questions, please reach out and we will discuss details with you.

“How many plants can I grow for medicine?”

You can calculate how many plants you are allowed to grow by how many grams of dried cannabis you are authorized to use in a day.

Health Canada has a Plant Calculator to determine how many indoor and/or outdoor plants you are legally allowed to grow to produce your own medicine.

“How do I turn my plants into medicine?”

Making your own medicine can be one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself and a loved one when taking back control over your health & wellbeing.

This also ensures you have full control of the base ingredients & methodologies used to craft a medicine that is best for you. Using organic, locally, ethically & sustainably sourced materials/inputs brings peace of mind in knowing for sure what is in your medicine, and how it is made (with love).

We offer our Herb Medicine Making: Foundation – Class in the spring & fall. This 6 week course ensures you learn the fundamentals in medicine making at home, and provides you with a solid understanding on how to create a variety of types of products for your specific needs:

Week 1: Theory

Week 2: Extractions & Infusions

Week 3: Tinctures & Drops

Week 4: Topicals, Lotion & Salve

Week 4: Medicated Edibles

Week 6: Suppositories

“Where do I get the ingredients, equipment & packaging to make/store the medicine?”

You can source your own ingredients in your local community, or you can get everything you need from our one-stop-shop Apothecary.

We offer refillable, biodegradable packaging as well, so you can refill your own jars at home with all you need to keep your apothecary stocked & ready.
